Decentraland has officially announced the highly anticipated return of its annual Art Week, scheduled to take place from September 24 to September 27, 2025. This year’s theme, “TOUCH GRASS,” promises to transform Decentraland into an interactive festival featuring installations, workshops, and activities led by over thirty prominent artists. The goal is to cut through the distractions of digital life and delve into the evolving nature of virtual worlds and humanity’s role within them. Bay Backner, Head Producer of Art Week at the Decentraland Foundation, stated, “Decentraland Art Week illustrates how artists are embracing virtual realms as a legitimate extension of their work and encourages others to embark on this journey. This year’s impressive lineup, including renowned names like Sara Shakeel and Johanna Jaskowska, emphasizes the importance of this evolution. The TOUCH GRASS theme reimagines the way digital art can enhance our lives in a future that is both human-centered and idealistic.”

Programming Highlights

The 2025 edition of Decentraland Art Week offers visitors an engaging exploration of the creative processes involved in 3D environments. In addition to large-scale immersive installations, the event includes educational programming aimed at empowering creators across various skill levels. The first day will introduce attendees to the possibilities within virtual worlds and provide guidance on how to begin creating in Decentraland. Day two will focus on strategies for artists to gain visibility and secure opportunities for virtual and mixed-reality exhibitions. The third day is dedicated to artificial intelligence, featuring collaborations with CSM, ImagineArt, and Sloyd, which will showcase how anyone can utilize innovative tools to craft 3D, game-ready artworks. The final day will wrap up with a summary of key workshops and a celebratory party to mark the conclusion of the festival.

Digital Fashion Week Collaboration

In anticipation of Art Week, Decentraland is teaming up with Digital Fashion Week (DFW) to highlight the future of virtual exhibitions. On September 11 in New York and September 18 in London, attendees will experience a blend of real-life and online interactions, including an “inside-out” runway show, projection-mapped showrooms, and interactive photo booths. These features will allow visitors to try on new fashion designs from Decentraland’s Loreine Studio, Emilija Slavkova, Stephen Vineburg, and Right Direction. These innovative designs will also be featured during Decentraland Art Week, reimagined as an immersive showroom, complete with exclusive avatar Wearable giveaways.

Immersive Installations

Over thirty large-scale installations will be strategically placed throughout Decentraland, with many transforming underutilized areas into vibrant cultural spots. Some of these works will remain accessible for at least a year, ensuring their influence lasts long after the festival concludes. Notable highlights include: Sara Shakeel’s The Forgotten Sense, an award-winning artist known for her collaborations with brands like Coach and Swarovski, who creates a dazzling digital environment that reflects on the loss of touch and warmth. Johanna Jaskowska’s Synthetic Rest invites visitors into an eerie yet tranquil space, exploring themes of intimacy and the blurred lines between human and machine. Amber Vittoria’s Where Her Thoughts Can Land offers a playful landscape filled with monumental sculptures, celebrating femininity and creativity. Clara Bacou’s Bloomfang features a mythical creature that challenges the sterile aesthetic of pixels, infusing Decentraland with her signature fantasy elements. Finally, Micah Alhadeff’s BloomSynth depicts a narrative of memory and technology, conjuring images of a desert with figures gathered around a futuristic artifact. Art Week is set to take place from September 24–27 within Decentraland, where participants can prepare by downloading the platform to their desktops, customizing their avatars, and exploring the festival.
