Reflecting on Game Informer’s Legacy
Since its inception in August 1991, Game Informer has been a cherished source for gamers eagerly anticipating their monthly publications. With the recent announcement of the magazine’s discontinuation, it’s a poignant moment for reflection on the engaging articles, thorough reviews, and industry news that have defined each issue. Although I didn’t have the opportunity to read many editions, the few I experienced provided a refreshing contrast to the typical online content I frequented. There’s an undeniable charm in holding physical copies of magazines, books, or games, making the closure of Game Informer a significant loss for the gaming community.
The Ultimate Handheld Gaming Experience
The Nintendo Switch is often celebrated as one of the finest handheld gaming consoles available, yet the Game Boy series holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers. These iconic devices were pivotal in introducing portable gaming and enabling players to immerse themselves in their Pokémon adventures.
The Most Overlooked Gaming Console
I have a deep appreciation for the Wii U and consistently defend its merits. Several factors contributed to my fondness for the Wii U: the stunning visuals of HD games, the innovative Wii U GamePad, a fantastic library of games and remakes, backward compatibility with Wii titles, and a rich selection of classic games available on its virtual console.
Your Favorite Nintendo DS Title
While renowned Nintendo DS titles like Nintendogs, New Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart DS, and Brain Age achieved impressive sales, many other gems from the DS era deserve recognition. Personally, I cherished the remakes of the Johto region in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Revisiting that world with enhanced graphics was a delightful experience; I often used the Pokéwalker peripheral, discreetly carrying it in my backpack during high school.
The Case for Switching from Console to PC Gaming
As the rivalry between Xbox and PlayStation continues, PC gamers often enjoy a versatile experience that encompasses exclusive titles from both consoles. However, what truly elevates the PC gaming experience beyond traditional consoles?
Should DLCs Compete for Game of the Year?
Numerous high-quality downloadable content (DLC) expansions have significantly enhanced major releases like The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, and Elden Ring. However, I believe it is somewhat unjust to consider them for the Game of the Year award. In my opinion, the GotY should honor a new intellectual property launched within the year. Nonetheless, I see no issue with The Game Awards introducing a category dedicated to recognizing outstanding DLC, as they deserve acknowledgment, albeit not for the highest accolade.
Your Ideal Launch Game for the Next Nintendo Switch
While Super Mario Odyssey 2 is the clear frontrunner in response to this question, it’s intriguing to imagine what other dream launch titles could inspire late-night gaming sessions. Rumors suggest a new 3D Donkey Kong game may be on the horizon, along with expectations for a new Mario Kart installment and the potential release of Metroid Prime 4 on both platforms.
Your All-Time Favorite Gaming Console
Despite technological advancements that create unprecedented immersive experiences, the nostalgic joy of inserting a disk into first-generation consoles remains cherished among veteran gamers. Whether harking back to the early days of consoles like the PS1, Xbox, or GameCube, or exploring the latest virtual reality platforms, each system has contributed uniquely to the gaming landscape, offering a variety of games and experiences for players of all ages.
Proposing a Change for The Game Awards Date
It seems peculiar, and likely a sentiment shared by many, that we cannot simply delay The Game Awards by four to six weeks to accommodate all 2024 game releases. As we approach the end of the year, titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, STALKER 2, and Marvel Rivals should have been included for consideration. By the time the subsequent Game Awards occur, over a year will have passed since these games launched, which could diminish their chances of winning. Advancing the awards to the end of January would allow the industry ample time to evaluate the previous year’s releases without creating awkward gaps in eligibility.
Your Preferred PlayStation Console and Its Appeal
Sony’s gaming consoles have evolved through five generations, encompassing both handheld and virtual reality devices. My personal favorite is the PS2, primarily due to the unforgettable franchises it introduced during my formative years in gaming.
Desired Features for the Next Switch Model
While Nintendo has remained tight-lipped about details regarding the successor to the Switch, fans are eager to speculate on potential improvements. Enhanced 4K graphics would be a welcome addition for many gamers, but other features like backward compatibility, a comprehensive achievement system, and customizable themes could also enhance the gaming experience.
Your Thoughts on the Latest Nintendo Direct
The recent Nintendo Direct unveiled exciting announcements, including a release date for the Switch 2, a new Mario Kart title, and a revival of classic GameCube games. With so much to absorb, how would you rate this Direct? What are you most looking forward to?

The Sims on Nintendo Switch: A Long-Awaited Arrival?
Many gamers who once thought certain titles would never appear on the Switch are now hopeful for their successor. It’s been quite some time since the last main Sims game graced a Nintendo platform, and it’s about time for a comeback. While I’d love to see The Sims 4 available on the eShop, given its free status, that might be too ambitious. Perhaps a Legacy Collection featuring The Sims and The Sims 2 would be a more realistic expectation.
Connecting with Fellow Gamers
I’ve found the Meetup app to be incredibly effective for meeting fellow gamers, along with attending local board game nights. Additionally, platforms like Facebook and Reddit have proven valuable for connecting with others. Facebook feels safer due to the ability to match names with faces, while Reddit interactions are more anonymous, relying solely on usernames. I’ve also made friends through various conventions.

Which Wrestling Moves Could Work in Real Life?
I often find humor in witnessing wrestlers seemingly incapacitated by moves that appear less than devastating. Take the People’s Elbow, for instance; it’s hard to believe anyone would be genuinely hurt by that. Nonetheless, the entertainment value is undeniable. That said, it raises the question of which wrestling moves might actually be effective in a real confrontation. Moves that involve slamming someone to the ground—such as Powerbombs or Chokeslams—would likely cause significant pain. I recall Kurt Angle expressing his disdain for taking The Last Ride from The Undertaker, and I can certainly understand why. And let’s not forget about Sweet Chin Music; that one would definitely pack a punch.
