Japanese video game company Atari, in association with Decentraland, launched their virtual casino last night.
Metaverse casinos, or crypto casinos are online betting platforms, where all transactions are processed in cryptocurrency. By relying on blockchain technology, decentralized gambling ensures a higher level of transparency, security, and privacy. The Atari Casino is a 3D virtual platform featuring a 20-parcel estate, situated at the co-ordinates ‘-95,110’ of Vegas City on Decentraland. It operates on the Ethereum blockchain via Decentraland (MANA). Following its Launch in April 2021, Atari also plans on opening the first Atari-themed hotel in the Real Las-Vegas.

The virtual launch party began with a doubled prize pool of $20,000. A tweet posted on the official account for Atari Token (ATRI) confirmed so, less than four hours before the launch party. At the center of proceedings was DJ, record producer, and electronic musician Dillon Francis. Atari lauded the musician’s performance on Twitter, stating they had “broke[n] every record” with the launch party.
Francis also teamed up with visual artist MERDA to create three NFTs, inspired by Gerald the Piñata. The NFTs were auctioned off on OpenSea and other platforms during the launch party. One featured a “3D Pixel Gerald,” which sold for 6.42 ether (ETH), the equivalent of $17,788.

The company also announced that it is prematurely ending its joint venture with ICICB group. “Despite the termination of the Joint Venture, Atari remains enthusiastic about the potential for blockchain initiatives and continues to establish and pursue strategic ventures and partnerships in the space,” the company stated in a press release.
Atari presses on into the crypto space with the formation of a new blockchain division: namely, Atari Blockchain. Frédéric Chesnais, then the CEO of Atari, has stepped down from his position to head up the this division. With this move, the gaming giant intends to develop new gaming experiences, drawing on implementations already made in games such as “Karma the Game of Destiny,” which integrated ATRI into the game for internal purchases.
